FUTURE QUEST 2011 - George Mason University, Fairfax, VA | November 19, 2011

This presentation is titled "Surviving the Fallout: What are Some of the Roadblocks to a Successful Transition to College and What to Do if Your Student Comes Home." Where is it written that all students must follow the same path and timeline after high school? In our highly achievement-oriented communities, there is a tendency to overemphasize academics and athletics to the detriment of development of non-academic/athletic components of success beyond high school. This workshop will cover some of the topics (social and life skills) that college counselors, parents, and teachers often shy away from discussing but that are critical to a successful transition to college. It will also look at what happens when that transition is not successful and how parents can help their students carve out alternative paths to success.

2011 CHADD LIVE (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder nationwide annual conference) - Academics and ADHD: Coaching Adolescents & Young Adult - Orlando, FL | November 12, 2011

Coaching young adults with ADHD is a multi-faceted process that provides a valuable service: executive skill support while these students mature, develop and learn the management skills necessary for academic and life success. Supporting a young adult's efforts to attain their goals is dependent on the coach building a positive rapport with their client. A panel of coaches who work in different settings will provide a birds-eye view into building rapport, share coaching tips, and describe how they maintain this relationship over the course of weeks, months, or years.
